Information Practices and Privacy

Family and Children’s Services of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville is an agency that protects children so they can grow up safe from abuse and neglect. We carry out our work under the Ontario Child, Youth and Family Services Act, which requires us to investigate possible abuse or neglect of children and to take steps to ensure the safety of children who need protection, including providing support to families when they need it. In addition, we recruit and provide services to support adoptive parents, foster parents, kinship service providers and other volunteers. To do this, we need to collect personal information about you, your child, your family and/or your home.

You have the right to:

  • Ask to see and get a copy of your personal information in your file
  • Ask for corrections to wrong or missing information in your file
  • Know if your personal information is lost, shared, stolen or viewed when it shouldn’t be

Requesting Access to your Personal Information

You are a current or former service recipient or child in care, and you would like a copy of your record related to your personal information (and/or the information of your child under the age of 16).

Requesting Adoption Records

You were adopted through FCSLLG, or are a family member of someone who was adopted through the Society, and you would like to request adoption records.

Requesting Disclosure of Records

You are an individual, agency, community service organization, or legal representative and you would like to access information related to the services provided to someone else.

Child Welfare Records Checks

You require a child welfare records check for employment at an OPR, another Children’s Aid Society, for an application through a private adoption agency or for any other purpose.

Privacy & Confidentiality

FCSLLG is committed to protecting the privacy of the children, adults and families it supports. To provide quality services, we must collect and use information about you and your family. In accordance with the law, we have set out rigorous protocols and safeguards to ensure your information remains confidential.

Family and Children’s Services of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville has a Privacy Policy that governs the personal information we collect, use and share in connection with the services we offer to children and families. This privacy policy and disclaimer applies to information we may collect from visitors to our website. We are committed to protecting the privacy of those who visit our website.

We will not automatically collect information about the identity of individuals searching our website. However, if visitors to our website provide information about themselves (such as a name or contact information) to us, we will collect that information and use it to respond. Also, if we receive information via our website about a child who may be in need of protection, we will collect that information and use it to investigate the concern raised. We may also collect de-identified information about visitors to our website. This may include the user’s IP address, the pages which were visited and the frequency of visits. We may monitor or analyze this information in order to improve our website and to ensure that the information posted addresses the needs of our visitors. However, we will not link this information with any names or addresses provided to us.

Our policies define our commitment to keeping your personal information safe. Employees are bound by a confidentiality oath and are required to follow training when they are hired.

We will not share your information with anyone outside of our organization. We will not send you unsolicited email.
